What exactly are website workshops?

Velity is offering small businesses and start-ups various one day in-person workshops located in San Diego, CA. These workshops will teach you how to build, design, and manage a basic template website, utilizing the Squarespace.com platform and led by Squarespace Authorized Trainer, Catherine Shipman. We offer 4 types of workshops designed to help people with a range of technical abilities, anywhere from Beginner to Intermediate. Each workshop will provide step-by-step hands on instructions that will allow you to create a website in one single day; beginning with initiating a template all the way through to launch. This means, you can save $1000's of dollars by building and managing a template website on your own and not having to hire a website designer, a branding expert, a graphic designer, a photographer, a copy writer, and more.

 

Who are website workshops for?

The workshops are design for anyone that desires to create an online presence. This includes those that own a small business, non-profit or start up, musicians or artists, or anyone who desires to share their story online, and do not currently have a website. In some cases, attendees have attempted to create their own website without success. Technical ability can range from beginner to intermediate. We recommend beginners take the Private Workshops. Beginners are defined as those that are easily confused by technology or need additional time to understand how to use a tablet or smartphone.

 

What do I learn at a website workshop?

These are hands-on workshops. Meaning you will come prepared with your own laptop and charger, Pre-Workshop Homework (assigned by us), all applicable content (images, written text) files, and website hosting payment type. Catherine, Owner & Designer, walks you through each and every step. You will learn template management, basic design, how make simple edits, how to add and delete pages, how to manage your social media, create contact forms and more. Thus, giving you total control over your own website. So should you want to make any changes, you can do so at your disposal and eliminate the need to hire someone to do it. Unless you want you, of course.

 

What exactly is included in each workshop?

Depending on the type of workshop you register for, you will learn how to initiate a template, add pages, add pictures and text on pages, make simple design changes, add contact forms, add a site description (SEO), change the colors and fonts, connect your Facebook or LinkedIn Business Page, purchase a domain, and add a logo. The Ecommerce workshop additionally includes connecting your merchant account, adding a service or product, blog, taxes, shipping, and various disclaimers and policies, as well as basic marketing training. The Master Build workshops include, advanced design editing, copy editing, on site head shots, on site logo design, in depth SEO, analytics training, marketing training and more. By the end of each workshop, you will launch your new website.

 

What does it cost to attend?

Each workshop has different pricing. Please see the Workshop Registration page to view the options. Pricing begins at $80 regular price, per person. Occasionally, we run specials or sales. Check in with us often to see what you can save. The workshop cost is for training only. Website hosting, merchant fees, domain, and email hosting are NOT included in our pricing. You will need to pay extra for the services you choose.

You will receive 20% off your first year of hosting, free domain for one year, and free email for one year, when attending our workshops. (Must pay annually and at time of workshop to receive discount.)

Workshop payment is due in full in advance. We do not offer refunds. Should you need to cancel your requested workshop date, you may reschedule up to 2 times at no additional cost. If you miss your 3rd scheduled workshop, you lose your payment.

 

What do I do to prepare for a workshop?

We will send you an email with all the information you need to prepare for your day. This includes a list of items to bring with you, such as a laptop and charger, your assigned Pre-Workshop Homework, and location information. Each workshop allows extra time at the end for one-on-one support from Squarespace Authorized Trainer, Catherine Shipman. You are welcome to leave the workshop after all tasks are completed or stay until the end of the class for any additional support. In this 3 hour In-Person workshop you will learn step-by-step the following:
